Taste your way through Parma and the Emilia-Romagna region, a food lover’s paradise, before heading to Liguria—home to the Italian Riviera and Cinque Terre. There you’ll soak in the breathtaking coastline, visit seaside towns and feast on pesto and seafood caught fresh that day by local fishermen.
Why you'll love it
Delight your tastebuds with abundant tastings of parmigiano reggiano cheese, prosciutto di Parma and balsamic vinegar from local producers
Enjoy long, leisurely lunches overlooking the sea
Visit the famed Cinque Terre and other port towns along the Italian Riviera with an expert local guide
After meeting your guide and driver, make the easy, two-hour chauffeured trip north to Parma. Along the way, stop in the town of Modena, for a tour and tasting at one of the area’s most esteemed makers of balsamic vinegar. Continue on to nearby Parma, an incredibly charming town whose cobblestones streets are filled with cyclists and lined with specialty food shops and fashion boutiques. Enjoy some free time to explore and settle into your hotel before a celebratory welcome dinner that will introduce you to region’s other specialties including a variety of salumi and taglioni al culatello (little spaghetti with strips of ham served in a sauce of Parmigiano cheese.
Following a light breakfast—don’t worry, there’ll be plenty of food to come later today—kick off the day’s culinary adventure with a visit to a local producer of world-renowned Parmigiano Reggiano cheese, which can only be made in this area. You’ll have a private tour of the factory, one of the oldest, originally founded by monks, then dive into a tasting. Next up: prosciutto di Parma, those whisper thin, velvet-soft slices of carefully cured pork, which, like the cheese, are also aged to perfection. You’ll be treated to another tour and tasting, this one a full-on lunch, with heaping plates of local meats and pasta paired with Lambrusco, the region’s particular brand of sparkling red and white wine. Satisfyingly full, head back to your hotel, pausing at a charming medieval castle and town to take in the panoramic views over the verdant countryside, then having free time for dinner back in Parma—if your stomach can handle it!
Today brings you from inland Emilia-Romagna to coastal Liguria and the Italian Riviera. On the easy 90-minute drive through a mountain pass, stop for a lovely countryside lunch, then get set up at your hotel, a seaside haven in one of the five villages of the Cinque Terre, or in the equally picturesque and nearby villages of Portovenere or Camogli. From there, you’ll have free time to explore, savoring the horizon-hugging views over the Tyrrhenian Sea and the dramatic architecture of the cliff-side landscapes. Grab a bite of dinner at a waterfront trattoria, and enjoy the fresh haul of the local fisherman, who you may even see returning to port with the day’s catch.
This is your day to explore the Cinque Terre: the five candy-colored, cliff-clinging seaside towns, connected by a footpath and rail line, that have captured travelers’ imaginations perhaps more than any other place in Italy. With your guide in the lead, you’ll visit as many as time and interest allows, getting from one to the next by train or, for those interested, by hiking the area’s various picturesque pathways, including the route known as the Via dell’Amore (the Path of Love) for its exceptionally romantic beauty. You’ll break for a leisurely alfresco lunch in one of the villages, perhaps vista-rich Vernazza, or equally quaint Riomaggiore, where a friend of the Ciao Andiamo family will produce a mouth-watering feast of local delights—just the thing to get your energy back for the rest of the day’s adventures overlooking the aquamarine sea.
Breakfast…and then you’re off, to get in as much more as you can before you’ve got to say goodbye. Spend the morning soaking up the atmosphere in another Riviera town, perhaps relatively undiscovered Camogli, or vaunted Portofino, where mega-yachts fill the marina. Then, en route back to Florence, you’ll make a bonus stop in Tuscany around lunchtime, to explore the lovely medieval town of Lucca, famous for the wide walls that ring its vibrant historic center, which is blissfully closed to cars. As the day winds down, you’ll be dropped back off at the original meeting point in Florence, so you can head off and away to wherever your next destination may be.
Revel in the seaside beauty of southern Italy - explore pristine beaches along the Tyrrhenian and Adriatic coasts, UNESCO World Heritage sites and quaint towns overlooking dramatic cliffs while savoring delectable cuisine, high-quality wines and regional specialties such as olive oil, fresh seafood and mozzarella burrata.

It felt as if we were being shown Italy by a friend who had the ability to share Italy with us from their personal experiences. We enjoyed each and every minute.

Thanks Jonathan and Ciao Andiamo for organizing an amazing vacation for us. All of Jonathan's recommendations for hotels were fantastic and his suggestions on how long to spend in each location were spot-on, creating a good balance between seeing as much as possible but still allowing some time for relaxation.
Just returned from an amazing 10 day trip to Italy for our 40th birthdays! Ciao Andiamo did an amazing job putting together a trip of a lifetime! We wanted to take a trip off the beaten path and Ciao Andiamo delivered in every way from arranging a villa to setting up a truffle hunt and private vineyard tours with home cooked meals.
